Where are you dragging me, dad?
To here.
The station?
Yeah. What do you see?
Just benches. Beautiful, though!
Remember that picture of the old tree you saw?
The one that got struck by lightning and was discarded? Sure.
Well, these benches came from that tree.
You’re kidding, right?
Nope, gospel truth.
How did …?
Lies in the eye and in the hand.
Depends on the Carpenter.
*One of my kids is going through a down time in life situation. I am trying to help understand that life doesn’t stand still because of a glitch. This outpouring is what I want to communicate and teach!
Dear Sabina,
This reminds me of the story of the old violin. No one would bid on it because it was old and scarred. The a violinist lifted it to his chin and played the most beautiful music. The old violin sold for thousands. When the auctioneer was asked what made the difference he said something to the effect of, “It was the touch of the master’s hand.”
Well crafted story.
Shalom,
Rochelle

I remembered that story Rochelle. Also a recent film about a guy deciding to opt for a career and then years later gets a second chance with the girl he left behind.
But the real impetus was my home situation!
Thanks

I remember the story of the stonecutters and the cathedral, http://www.anecdote.com/2008/07/the-stonecutters-cathedral-builder/ … I guess it’s all about seeing the big picture.

I like the fact not just that there was an obstacle, but that it took a trained eye to see the benches within the tree

Well done, Sabina! Especially the Carpenter. 😉

Absolutely! I remember reading a story about how while everyone saw a piece of marble, Michelangelo saw an angel in it and proceeded to release it!

Nice anecdote!
True. Not just the big pic but we need telescope vision too!
We often have only microscopes!

Nice little story to illustrate the message. I hope your kid gets something from it too! Take care of the little things and look at the big picture and everything will be okay.

I’m reminded of the movie “The Natural” with Robert Redford. He has a baseball bat made from a tree that had been struck by lightning. I like the lesson you are teaching here too.

A lovely story. In a way it illustrates the circle of life, or an afterlife if you want, in a very positive way.

I was taken up by the beauty of those benches and thought of redemption out of a bad situation. When everything is lost, there is still hope for something good!

I am often inspired by watching my children grow and learn through hardship. This is a wonderful lesson that will probably be more appreciated later.

A good story used for a good lesson. I hope your child finally understands. Growing up is often difficult. A caring parent or mentor can make all the difference. Well done, Sabina. 🙂 — Suzanne

Thanks Suzanne. I am more and more learning one thing: PARENTS CANNOT AFFORD TO GIVE UP ON THEIR CHILDREN, NO MATTER THE TEMPTATION TO DO SO OR THE CIRCUMSTANCES THAT SEEM SO!
