DISTRESS DIRIGE

Help me O Lord Creator of all,
God of heaven and of the whole earth,
Lead me completely into the perfect rest,
That you have kept in store allotted for me.

Carved out with care,
Fashioned with flair
You have ordained my special lair,
For it to be when I tear.

Help me to let go of the old cast,
The familiar way of the real past,
Trusting the One Who has held me fast,
Knowing He would be with me till the last.

Father, I have nothing to show forth nor anything to call my own
All I have on the altar laid for your fire to consume.
Transition me through this valley of shadow of death,
With your gentle strength and your great presence.

Father, it’s a new path I haven’t walked before,
My heart and my flesh shrink from the cross to bear.
It’s not that I doubt your plan for me nor your skill to repair,
It’s the humiliation that I would need to stand and daily endure.

Let the waves that break over me in quick succession
Only prove that it is all for my own progression.
Anchor me in firm stand until they are in recession,
So that I will not sink and be lost in deep depression.

Birth in me the life of Christ
Mold me true in His image so clear.
Hold me close and hide me in you
Until I see your face on the other side!

I FELL IN LOVE

He had been there in the background for many years,
A calming silent presence in the midst of my tears,
Shadowy substance hidden in haze and misty meres,
I didn’t see him ‘cos I hid behind many fears.

He was content to calmly woo me in my essence ,
Quietly waiting to break the time of his silence,
Patiently he bore my negligence and defiance,
Until the moment was ripe for proper affiance.

He stepped into the open to catch my attention,
Swept away all my doubts and morbid apprehension,
Capturing my heart with his gentle persuasion,
He made me aware of his original intention.

I was amazed when I saw it was me he had chosen,
To be his own who was nothing except broken.
I couldn’t for the life of me see why he had this notion,
That I was something worthy of his full devotion.

He made me so strong with his love that I did really blossom,
He made me secure with his care that I feel so awesome.
I was startled to hear that he rescued me with a ransom,
And now he is in the process of producing a transform.

Falling in love with Jesus was an easy thing,
Why wouldn’t I when he thinks I am worth something!
He is my stable anchor in any and everything,
For me to live for Him is the only the right thing!

A GOOD LIFE: RICHNESS & WEALTH

In a discussion with friends from another country, comparing notes about life as lived in our respective countries, I realised that their idea of abundance was not to buy and hoard things, but traveling to other countries, exploring and experiencing their culture, food, sights etc. It was being able to work with refugees, teaching them life skills and ensuring they were equipped to live in the new country.

Basically their goals were the freedom to pursue their interests and the luxury to realize their passions.

I was struck by difference between our outlooks on what is worth pursuing.

For us, it’s all about how much material wealth that we have, the quantity of what we have as cash. Theirs is all about the quality of life they lead and have. Ours is about the ability to buy or spend, while theirs was about the ability to experience different things. Ours is all about tangible things, while theirs is about intangible things. Ours is about acquisition of concrete things, while theirs is the accruing of exploring experiences. Ours is about saving for some distant secure future, while theirs is about enjoying the present and savoring the day-to-day life.

We have lost out on teaching our children to decipher what is of value and what is worth saving. We have traded real treasures for baubles and trinkets that neither have substance nor provide satisfaction. We have given up the training of our children for the provision of comforts that may end up destroying them. We have forgotten that our future is our children and traded the spending of time-in-hand with them for the acquisition of something we may lose any time.

Jesus taught us to seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness first and promised other things will be added to us. He asked us not to waste our time and energies for things that have no value in eternity.

Let’s wake up to what in the true sense is wealth, abundance and of value.

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matt 6:19-21).

Father, impress upon us the sense of what is of real worth and help us to transfer that sense to those who have real worth – our children and our generations!

TREASURED PLEASURE

When God is my deepest pleasure,
I display Him as my highest treasure.
Who can know the worth of His greatest measure,
Or understand the extent of His gracious pressure!

When God is my eternal loving Father,
Why do I need the favor of another.
For Him I am not a nuisance or a bother,
I constantly look to Him for anchor and tether!

When God is my source and supply,
I don’t need to anywhere look or apply.
He won’t let even a day go simply by,
Without any provision or something for me to buy!

When God is my only Lord and Lifegiver,
I just need to look to Him to change my behavior.
Where could I run from my precious Savior,
That teaches me to love everyone as my neighbor!

When He is my ever constant friend and Lover
I have not to seek anyone to be my protective cover.
He’ll overshadow me with His kindly power
I run eagerly after Him for His glories to discover!

When He is enough to satisfy my deepest desire,
What else do I need for to reach or aspire.
He is with me in every day I breathe and respire,
How can I not follow Him and scintillate as a live wire!
