RETURN OF THE NATIVE

With some difficulty, and with some stings from nettles and pricks from thorns, they struggled out of the thicket.

Then they had another surprise. Everything became much brighter, and after a few steps they found themselves at the edge of the wood, looking down on a sandy beach.

A few yards away a very calm sea was falling on the sand with such tiny ripples that it made hardly any sound. There was no land in sight and no clouds in the sky. The sun was about where it ought to be at ten o’clock in the morning, and the sea was a dazzling blue. They stood sniffing in the sea-smell.

*Close friends CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien both wrote epic fantasy novels inspired by the English countryside, so when it came to bringing the Lord Of The Rings and The Chronicles Of Narnia to the big screen, it was inevitable the films would be shot in – New Zealand. The film’s New Zealand North Island base was the old Hobsonville Air Base in northwestern Auckland, where most of the spectacular sets were built, including London’s ‘Paddington Station’, as the Pevensie children are evacuated from the capital to avoid the bombing of the city during WWII.

*I love the sea and this week’s prompt had me jumping with joy.  I have always lived near the sea and from my childhood, nothing refreshes me so much as sitting in the sands and watching the sea. This week’s prompt  was so enticing that I have posted a second blog, again from the Chronicles of Narnia. I have added a bit about the film’s location which, I was surprised to find, was in New Zealand and not UK!

The castle of Cair Paravel on its little hill towered up above them; before them were the sands, with rocks and little pools of salt water, and seaweed, and the smell of the sea and long miles of bluish-green waves breaking for ever and ever on the beach.

And oh, the cry of the sea-gulls! Have you heard it? Can you remember?

That evening after tea the four children all managed to get down to the beach again and get their shoes and stockings off and feel the sand between their toes.

This week’s prompt had my mind scrambling with atleast  5 or 6 possible scenarios. I happened to be watching the Chronicles of Narnia and thought of the lovely sea scenes. I was astonished to know the filming locations for this series and the Hobbit series were in New Zealand. The NZ government have used this to promote tourism in that country. How I do wish I could tour the land!

FF20MAY

Where are you dragging me, dad?

To here.

The station?

Yeah. What do you see?

Just benches. Beautiful, though!

Remember that picture of the old tree you saw?

The one that got struck by lightning and was discarded? Sure.

Well, these benches came from that tree.

You’re kidding, right?

Nope, gospel truth.

How did …?

Lies in the eye and in the hand.

Depends on the Carpenter.

TRUE LIGHT

Twinkle, twinkle little star

How you are lost in the neon lights!

Up above you shine so bright

Yet no one sees you in the world so bright!

When the blazing power blows out,

When there is nothing seen at all,

Then we see your little light,

Shining as always, quiet in your might!

To the one who lives in the flashy lite

You are nothing more than a dot in the night!

But to the one who wanders seeking a spot in the blight

You are the sight that leads to the life!

EVANESCENCE & PERMANENCE

919600180540Teach me O Lord my God
To rest under the shade of your hand
Relax in the coolness of your base
From the heat and dust of the way.Teach me O lord my God
To accept the limit of my days
The end of my strength
And the twilight of my hopes.Focus me on the constancy of your love
The extent of your care
The width of your embrace
And the ancientness of your daysRenew my strength as the eagles
Keep me flying high, always
Above the stormy clouds
Of my daily life’s pain.May i continue to hold aloft
The light of hope for the weary to see
Until they gain the strength to stand
Resisting against the waves.May I ever row my boat
Onward to the shore
Never giving up until I reach
The safe haven of your loving grace!

POWERFUL PERCH

Look at those birds on those wires.

Won’t they get hurt by the current coursing through them?

No, they won’t.

Why not?

They are not grounded!

What do you mean?

See, they have no earth contact.

So…?

Power passes freely through them .

If not…?

It will burn them on its way down.

Hmmm…

Why did you stop?

Just thinking.

What?

You cannot dangle between two things.

Smart kid!
