*Friday Fictioneers is talented group of enthusiasts penning down a story, a poem, a prose, etc., expressing their heart about a photo prompt, every week. Thanks for this week’s beautiful PHOTO PROMPT © Rochelle Wisoff-Fields!
The castle of Cair Paravel on its little hill towered up above them; before them were the sands, with rocks and little pools of salt water, and seaweed, and the smell of the sea and long miles of bluish-green waves breaking for ever and ever on the beach.
And oh, the cry of the sea-gulls! Have you heard it? Can you remember?
That evening after tea the four children all managed to get down to the beach again and get their shoes and stockings off and feel the sand between their toes.
*I love the sea and this week’s prompt had me jumping with joy. I have always lived near the sea and from my childhood, nothing refreshes me so much as sitting in the sands and watching the sea.
This week’s prompt had my mind scrambling with atleast 5 or 6 possible scenarios. I happened to be watching the Chronicles of Narnia and thought of the lovely sea scenes. I was astonished to know the filming locations for this series and the Hobbit series were in New Zealand. The NZ government have used this to promote tourism in that country. How I do wish I could tour the land!
(THIS IS AN EXCERPT FROM THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA BY C S LEWIS)
My little one had a similar reaction to the beech.
Kept tossing the sand into the air.

I can almost taste the salt on my tongue and hear the waves, great descriptions! I also live near the sea (well, not so close any more, maybe 8 miles).
Your story had a very “Enid Blyton” feel to it, with the castle and the four chums. Adventure awaits!
I’ve wanted to visit New Zealand ever since I saw the first Lord of the Rings. Apparently you can visit Hobbiton!

I agree – very Enid Blytonesque! Loved the description and innocence.

Dear Sabina
My eldest son and I read The Chronicles of Narnia together when he was ten. Such wonderfully written books. The photo was actually taken in Chicago…one of the Great Lakes. I, too love the sea although I’m landlocked in the Midwest US.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Without Timmy it can not be the famous five, but how they loved the sea, and so do I

This is such a lovely scene. I too love the sea but sadly don’t live near it. I worked in New Zealand for six months long before it became a fantasy land, and loved it.

Cair Paravel – it’s such a great name isn’t it.
An interesting post – CS Lewis has a good style for Friday Fiction! A bit of description, a direct appeal to the reader and then a sentence from the children’s perspective…

I always liked the ocean, although, like Rochelle, I’m land-locked, too (we live 20 minutes from each other). I particularly like the tropics with palms and white sands.
To write something heartfelt and joyous is always a blessing. Such was this story. Bravo, Sabina! 🙂
Five out of five pails and shovels. 😀
